exudate management

Die wound edge ist the origin of the epithelisation, the final phase of wound closure. It needs special attent and protection. Aggressive exudate and maceration destroy the protective layers of the epidermis, promote infection and disable the keratinocytes.

The following measures may be applied for edge protection.

direct protection:
- liquid films, strips of foil, thin foam, hydrogel strips, hydrocolloid strips, contact layers, greasy gauzes

indirect protection
- exudate management by hydrofibres, superabsorbers and certain foams.
